Still For Sale – Detail of 1953 MGTD Chassis No TD29328 – Still For Sale
4Cyl 1250CC Engine Registered in Jersey
I purchased the car on 10th May 2010 and knew the last two previous owners. I knew the car had been laid up in a garage for at least 8 years up to the date I acquired it. I was also aware that some years prior to that £14,000 had been spent refurbishing it (have bills). The only visual damage was a patch on the tonneau cover but still usable now. The hood and side screens are excellent as is the leather interior.
Following the purchase and a few test drives the following work was carried out.
1/ Overhaul brakes, including all new cylinders.
2/ New stainless steel exhaust.
3/ New clutch and overhauled 5 speed synchromesh gear box with overdrive.
4/ New Water pump’
5/ New starter motor, new battery and dynamo overhauled, plus change of earth to negative to suit SatNav
The MGTD was in production from 1949 to 1953 but this particular one is too new for JOMC membership. However it is a really good looking, reliable and fun to drive sports car. 1953 was the last and best of the MGTD having several minor modifications and increased engine power. It was followed the same year by the MGTF.
I know I have spent far more than I will ever get back but under the circumstances would accept an offer in the region of £18,000 to £20,000 or part exchange for a pre 1950 small open car such as an Austin 7. Morris 8 etc, that Joan could drive in JOMC events.
